Prof. Zirm’s areas of expertise include the surgical correction of refractive errors and presbyopia, and corneal endothelial transplantation. Of particular importance are the diagnosis and therapy of glaucoma and the treatment of cataracts, as well as the surgical correction of refractive errors through the implantation of artificial lenses into the eye.
Since 1972, Prof. Zirm has successfully performed over 56,000 eye surgeries. His specialty includes refractive, cataract, and glaucoma surgery, keratoplasty, as well as treatments for retinal diseases, including retinal and vitreous surgery.
Prof. Zirm has conducted teaching and surgical activities worldwide. This includes surgical courses in Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, China, Scandinavia, USA, and Brazil, as well as study visits to the Institute of Tropical Medicine and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Prof. Zirm is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG).
As Deputy Head of Clinic, he established the Laboratory for Experimental Ophthalmology and opened his private practice in Innsbruck in 1978, followed by another in Vienna in 2000.
Prof. Zirm has published more than 350 publications, lectures, and international courses, and developed 19 patents for surgical instruments and training devices (SFVT).
